Social Media Policy

Union of Kingston Students’ Community Rules

Because communication is a two way street, we’ve created some community rules for us and our members to follow to ensure a positive environment while our community grows.

The Union’s Facebook pages, twitter profile and all other social media encourage honest, friendly and open conversation. We love talking to you and we want to hear what you have to say so please leave your comments, post your photos, and send videos and links. If you have a question please post or directly message the page and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Just remember when doing so to remain respectful and on topic.

The Union’s social media is monitored and we will remove any comments, without notification which:

  • Use language which is racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, abusive, or can be seen as offensive
  • Use language which incites, perpetuates or provides a platform for violence against any group or individuals
  • Use language which is inappropriate or in poor taste, including swearing and offensive language
  • Use an offensive username or have a profile image which is violent, sexually explicit or otherwise illegal
  • Disrupt, bully or impersonate an individual or organisation
  • Discuss illegal activity or break the law
  • Include content which violates copyright, intellectual property rights, defamation, and contempt of court
  • Include content that relates to confidential information
  • Include content that is or links to sexually explicit material
  • Include content which is in breach of Union of Kingston Students’ Election Rules
  • Advertise products or services not approved in advance by the Students’ Union Marketing Department
  • Is spam, link baiting, or is suspected to be a file containing viruses that could damage the operation of other people’s computers or mobile devices.
  • Are statements or comments which are deliberately posted to hijack a conversation or throw discussions off-track

While as a Union we encourage free speech, awareness of social, political and ethical issues from our members, we do not endorse any opinions expressed in our groups, social media pages unless directly posted by us.

We are not responsible for the accuracy of the information, claims and advice posted by individuals or external companies on our social media or in our groups.

Please make sure you respect everyone who uses our social media and discussion groups as we want everyone to get along. Please make sure you adhere to the rules laid out here as well as each social media’s respective terms and agreements. If someone posts something you think is offensive or causes you any distress, use that social media’s abuse reporting system.

If you have any further questions please contact us on studentsunion@kingston.ac.uk

Sorry about being so serious, but it needed to be said. With that all out of the way follow us on social media and we can have a chat, answer all your questions and have some fun along the way.
