we’re proud to present our program of events, talks and more for Black History Month 2020. all events are free and open to all students and staff of KU.

we’ve been hosting Black history month events for many years at the union, and with the events of 2020, it’s more important than ever. we’re covering a range of topics - from the COVID-19 pandemic to the protests in light of the Black Lives Matter events in June - all created to spark discussion, thought, debate and remembrance among KU students.
we’re committed to supporting, helping and empowering Black students alongside educating non-Black students too.
we hope our month of events contributes to our ongoing efforts in a positive way.

A talk by Adam Elliot Cooper, on: “The policing of the BLM protests and how the policing of the Covid-19 lockdown positively/negatively affected the protests?
Adam Elliott-Cooper received his PhD from the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford. Adam is currently a research associate in sociology at the University of Greenwich and he sits on the board of the Monitoring Group, an anti-racist organisation challenging state racisms and racial violence.
