a motion is a formal way that students can ask the Union to work on or change something. any student can submit a motion, but all motions will need to be discussed and debated at one of our union meetings (student council or our annual Big Student Meeting). this is to make sure the motion is in the best interest of all KU students, because if the motion is passed it becomes a Union policy for the next 3 years, which means the Union is required to complete the work proposed in the motion.
you must email your motion to the Student Council Chair on firstname.lastname@example.org, 3 university days before a Student Council meeting and 5 univesity days before our AGM.
motions pass when the majority of people at the meeting vote in favour of it. once the motion has passed, it becomes part of the Union's policies for the next three years.
