We are here to help! We've put together a list of the questions we get asked most often. Have a look below if you need help on a topic. If you can't find what you're looking for here you can also email us at societies@kingston.ac.uk.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are available for 28 days after the purchase of the membership. Contact the societies office by emailing societies@kingston.ac.uk, if you require one.

What is the balance on my society account?

Please email the Students’ Union at societies@kingston.ac.uk requesting your account balance, please determine which account either your funding account or your membership account.

Why has my invoice not been paid?

The union processes all its invoices on Wednesday and it usually takes 3-5 working days to reach the recipient's account. It’s so important that you put the account holders name, sort code and account number on the invoice when you send it to us. If we don’t have this information it can cause delays and prevent invoices being paid. If you have done all this, please drop us an email and we can make sure that your invoice has been processed or organise for it to be processed.

Can we get a float for an event?

Please email the Students’ Union at societies@kingston.ac.uk with a detailed request for a float seven days before your event. This will include the date of the event and the amount needed. You will obtain an email stating when you can pick your float up.

Do I need evidence to support my claim for expenses?

Yes, please attach receipts and invoices to your Cahs Request form available under 'Committee Resources' on the SU website.

How do I join a society?

The best way to join a society is at the Freshers’ Fair when every society will have a stall advertising their activities. You can also join on the society's page on the SU website.

How much does it cost to join a society?

Societies’ membership fees vary from £2 - £10, depending on their type of activity. You will find this information upon logging in under student login on the SU website and viewing the relevant club page.

How can you purchase society membership?

You can attend Fresher's Fair and find the society's stall and purchase your membership there. Also, membership can be purchased throughout the entire year from the Students’ Union building on Penrhyn Road campus, Monday – Friday between 10 am and 4 pm.

How long does my membership last?

Your membership fee lasts for one academic year's worth of activity; from the start of September until the end of July. If you wish to continue with your chosen programme the following year then you must renew your membership and pay another year's fees.

Is there a deadline to join a society?

There is no official deadline, but it's worth noting that the earlier you join the more events, conferences, competitions, and activities you can take part in.

How many societies can I join?

You are welcome to join as many societies as you like but make sure you consider the day and times of their meetings to avoid clashes and your academic commitments.

How do I contact a specific society?

Each society has a social media page or a contact email address to get in touch with the club. These can be found on the society's page on the SU website. Should you require a specific committee contact then please contact the societies office societies@kingston.ac.uk

I joined a society but they haven’t contacted me, what should I do?

At first, try to contact the society directly using the details available on the A-Z list. If your attempts are unsuccessful, email societies@kingston.ac.uk and the Societies Office can contact the society on your behalf.

Can the union help to promote society events?

Yes, in many ways, depending on how much notice you can provide and the nature and scale of your event, although the main responsibility for promotion must rest with your Events/ Media Officer as organisers.

The Union can promote your event on the SU website under the 'Events' display. Your event can also be promoted on the SU's Societies Instagram page @kingstonuniversitysocieties.

The Union can also put up your posters and flyers (with the union's stamp) on the official noticeboards and communal spaces across campus. However, if you put them on random doors and walls then they will just take them down again!

If I want to sell tickets online, what is the procedure I need to follow?

It’s a really simple process, your Events/ Media Officer or Secretary must first set up an event on your group page on the website. You will then need to create an event ticket (you can have as many types as you like e.g. early birds, Alumni). Enter all the other required information including when you want tickets to go on sale, who can buy them and how many and then email societies@kingston.ac.uk with what you want the ticket price to be. Please note, you will not be able add the price yourself and it must be done by a societies staff member.
