Academic Representation

we work alongside the Uni to help support reps & the academic rep system.

we're excited to be launching a revamp of the academic representation system here at Kingston University. we've been working hard with the university to take a look at how UKS can support students and reps, and so this year, we're taking the lead on recruitment, training and development, all to ensure your union is centering your voice and that we're representing your academic interests.

there are three main roles:

course reps - at least one student for every year of study per course. ensuring your feedback on your course is heard by staff. this is a voluntary, unelected role that any student can get involved in.

school reps - a student for every school or department if your department doesn't sit within a school, there is one for undergraduate students and one for postgraduate taught. ensuring your feedback in your school is heard by staff. this is a voluntary elected role.

faculty reps - a student for every level of study per faculty, so one undergraduate, one postgraduate taught and one postgraduate research. ensuring your feedback in your faculty is heard by staff. this is a voluntary elected role.

this system means your issues (no matter how big or small) have the potential to be changed which gives you the chance to shape and improve your course just by telling your course rep your thoughts.

being a reps gives you the chance to:

develop key skills in areas such as communication, leadership, organisational and persuasion (the kinds of things future employers want)

a role that can be put on your CV and goes towards Kingston Award points

gain an in-depth knowledge of how the uni works (so if you like being nosey, this is a role for you)

network with your classmates and lecturers, as well as other course reps.
