Give your bookshelf a feminist makeover with two top reads out on IWD.

1. WE: A Manifesto For Women Everywhere by Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel (£16.99; Harper Thorsons). Written by actress Gillian Anderson and her friend, journalist Jennifer Nadel, WE is an impassioned tome combining practical, psychological and spiritual tools for a more fulfilling life.

2. Attack of the 50 Ft. Women: How Gender Equality Can Save The World! By Catherine Mayer (£20; HQ). The co-founder of the Women's Equality takes the reader on an inspiring, revelatory and often hilarious journey to explore the merits of a gender-equal society.

Join runners of all abilities for a free 5km event in London at 7pm. Whether you're a fitness pro or new to the sport, the event is all about bringing women together to build community, make friends and celebrate our bodies. If you haven't already seen the documentary Embrace, you're going to want to snap up a ticket pronto. Screening in cinemas across the UK on IWD, prepare to whoop from your chair and shed a tear as you follow the crusade of body-image activist Taryn Brumfitt as she challenges the global issue of body loathing.

Visit Focus On India, an exhibition by travel photographers Joseph Fox and Patrick Wheeler, alongside images taken at Snehalaya's Children's Home in India. Hear the stories, learn about the progression of women’s rights, and sample Indian street food. At Tried & True, Putney. More details here.
