Every year we hold the Society Awards Ceremony to recognise and celebrate the hard work and achievements of Union of Kingston Student Societies.

1. Society of the Year
The Society of the Year Award aims to reward the society that has offered the best service to its members, good organisation of activities, a wide variety and number of events, improvements on previous years, involvement within the Union and overall organisation and structure.
2. Best New Society
The Best New Society Award aims to reward the society that has formed that academic year and has actively recruited members, formed the best overall structure and provided the best service to its members. This new society should provide solid foundations to enable continuation from year to year.
3. Best Academic Society
The Best Academic Society would’ve provided high levels of academic support to its members which could be through inviting guest speakers to the University, hosting workshops and debates.
4. Best Arts and Activities Society
The Best Arts and Activities Society Award aims to reward the society which has consistently provided its members with a variety of opportunities through the delivery of well organised activities and events.
5. Best Cultural Society
The Best Cultural Society aims to reward a Cultural society that provided its members with outstanding events, activities and support which showed excellent organisation, commitment and delivery.
6. Best Faith Society
The Best Faith Society Awards aims to reward the faith society that has provided amazing support for their members, quality events and extra-curricular activities, as well as engaging with the wider student demographic.
7. Best Liberation and Campaigns Society
The Best Liberations and Campaign Society Award aims to reward the best Liberation and Campaign society during year. This society has recruited new members, provided the best services and opportunities for its members.
8. Global Festival Event of the Year
The Society Global Festival Event of the Year Award aims to reward the society that held an outstanding event during Global festival which showed excellent organisation, commitment and delivery.
9. Most Improved Society
Some societies may not have got off to the greatest start, no fault of their own. Maybe they received a poor Handover or had never held any events before or were in poor financial situation. The Most Improved Society would have turned it all around to become a pro-active society that engages with all of its members in a variety of different ways.
10. Best Inter-Society Collaboration
Societies are so fantastic alone but imagine what they could achieve if they came together and collaborated? Any societies that have done just that are eligible for this award whether it be a trip, conference or social.
11. Contribution to Inclusivity
This individual/society has gone above and beyond to improve inclusivity in their society. They have fully engaged in the Union’s inclusivity policies i.e. implementing a Welfare Officer, fulfilling the Inclusive Society Award aims, engaging with Widening Participation and ensuring that all society members are getting the most out of their experience.
12. Society Contribution to the Community
Engaging with the wider community outside of society members can offer a wealth of valuable experiences. Whether it’s across the University community or out into the City and beyond, a society that
actively looks to have an impact outside of the Union could be eligible for this award.
1. President of the Year
Awarded to the president who has shown an exceptional commitment to their society, passion to drive the society forward to make it bigger and better and excellent organisation in developing ideas/events. This person should have a thorough understanding of the committees needs and have consistently organised activities and meetings for society members that are engaging and rewarding. This person will have kept society members well informed and taken their suggestions on board.
2. Treasurer of the Year
This is awarded to the treasurer of a society who has shown excellent organisation, accurate control of society accounts and the use of a budget. This award is to acknowledge consistent hard work in all applications for funding, society expenditures and control of society income. The nominee will have shown dedication in their role and remained consistent throughout the year in developing the society alongside the committee.
3. Secretary of the Year
This is awarded to the secretary of a society who has shown excellent organisation, accurate minute taking and pre written agendas for meetings. This award is to acknowledge consistent hard work, active contribution in events/meetings and assisting the president. The nominee will have shown dedication in their role and remained consistent throughout the year in developing the society alongside the committee.
4. Media Officer of the Year
This is awarded to the media officer of a society who has shown excellent marketing, communication with members and advertising for society events. This award is to acknowledge consistent hard work, inventive ways of contacting and gaining new members and sending fortnightly email updates to members. The nominee will have shown dedication in their role and remained consistent throughout the year in developing the society and it's communication alongside the committee.
5. Outstanding Contribution to Societies
This is awarded to a committee member/ member / associate of a society who has provided an outstanding contribution to the running, operation and activity of one or more societies for at least one year. This award is to acknowledge consistent service beyond that which is normally expected of a member/ committee member/associate. It should be stressed that the award is for someone who has made an outstanding contribution and not just someone who has done a good job. Every nomination will be carefully discussed and considered by the Awards Committee.
