We Deserve Pay!

Under UK law, companies are currently allowed not to pay student interns if they are doing their internships ship as part of their degree and we a petitioning the governement to change this:  https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/632718 

This specific petition is to gain the support of our student union so that we can fight this issue together, as a university. 

This petition was created by a group of KSA students currently in their placement year, all doing unpaid internships. Some of us receive compensation for travel, some of us don't but none of us receive a salary for the work we do. 

Companies are exploiting the competitive nature of some industries to use us for free labour and would not be able to produce the work they do without us or without hiring employees to replace us. 

A lot of us have to resort to working, sometimes 30+ hours, in addition to working as interns for big companies and small brands alike. 

All employers should be required to pay a minimal, salary for any work that is done for them and the fact that we are student interns should not change this.

With the cost of living crisis especially, that has affected us all, we need to demand fair wage no matter the circumstances of the worker. Whether they are student interns or not.
