About the Midwifery Society

MidSoc Group @ Awards 2022

What does the Midwifery Society do?

The Midwifery society was created by students for students to support our midwifery learning and each other as we go through the full oxytocin cycle and birthing pains of becoming midwives.

We plan social events, workshops, guest speakers and share experiences.

What does the Midwifery Society hope to achieve?

We hope to showcase and highlight important current issues within Midwifery which may or may not be covered in our set curriculum.

We also want to make sure each and every Student Midwife feels valued and heard and has the most memorable experience during their degree, creating lifelong memories & forever friends!

Who can join the Midwifery Society?

All students/faculty interested in midwifery and caring for mothers/birthing people, fathers/partners/families and babies are welcome to join the society and attend events!

What does it cost to join the Midwifery Society?

It’s completely free to join the Midwifery Society!

How much do events cost to attend?

This varies event to event... Some events are completely FREE. Other events require a small fee.

Charging for some events helps cover the associated costs including but not limited to paying for our valued guest speakers, equipment for the event, and food and/or drinks.

Rather than paying for a membership, you only pay for the events you wish to attend, or attend the free events we organize.

What kind of events do MidSoc organize?

  • MidSoc Hoodie/Fleece/T-Shirt Sales in September.

  • Guest Speakers (Celebrity Midwives, Senior Lecturers, Research Midwives, Student Midwives, etc.)

  • Workshops (Survival Skills, Crochet your own boobs, etc.)

  • Socials (Pub Crawls, Balls, Drinks, etc.)

  • Book Clubs

  • Themes

  • Student Experiences

  • Mentoring Scheme (Buddy-Up with Senior/Junior cohorts)

  • And more!

How often do MidSoc organize events?

We aim to organize events once per month, whenever possible.

I'd like to join the committee. How do I get involved?

At the end of each academic year, positions in the society open up as third year members become newly qualified or second years step down.

In the spring we inform current students which roles are available and encourage them to reach out to join us. If you think you may be interested in applying for a role within the committee, please send an email to kumidsoc@gmail.com and let us know which role(s) appeal to you, OR fill out this form to register interest for 2022/23 and/or 2023/24.

Are there other ways to get involved with the society?

Absolutely! We are always looking for students to share their experiences and ideas. If you have any suggestions for us, please write to us at kumidsoc@gmail.com!

I’m not a Kingston University student, but I still want to get involved, can I?

While non-Kingston University students/faculty are unable to join the Midwifery Society on this platform, you are free to like our social pages and engage with our resources and events.

If you are part of an organization that works with mothers, babies and/or midwives, or would be interested in being a guest speaker for an event, please get in touch!
